John WEBB / AUSTRALIA

John WEBB is an Artist from Australia. He is presenting a triptych called "Dirk van Hartog discovers Australia". Playing with the scale and composition he has imagined a scene that combines ancien prints and contemporary architecture.

Technique : mixed media, painting techniques with paper-cut collage.

Artist's statement : " In 1616 while sailing to the Spice Islands Dirk van Hartog was blown of course and landed on the west coast of Australia , the first European to land there. After a few days and finding nothing of interest he sailed north to Batavia, leaving a pewter plate attached to a tree to record his visit. Little did he know that this new land had been inhabited for 50, 000 years."
